I can't say enough good things about them. Found this shop when looking for a place to get the emissions tests done on my diesel cars that didn't overcharge. Not sure why Air Care Colorado shops don't test diesels when there are so many diesels running around now. 5th Gear is less expensive than the only place in Boulder for emissions testing, and not as far away as the other places I used to go to. If a car doesn't pass emissions, the 5th Gear mechanics can do what's needed to get it to pass, not that I've needed their help on this. I maintain my cars religiously, since I want them to last to at least 200K miles. I've been back to 5th Gear a few times for alignments, oil changes, checkups and routine maintenance. As a 50+ woman who knows a lot about my cars (always a smart thing no matter your age or gender), I've found dealing with the guys here a real breath of fresh air! They are friendly, honest, explain anything I don't quite understand (which is very rare), very reasonable on pricing, fairly easy to schedule with, send texts to keep me informed of appointments and progress, and don't mind if you bring in your own parts (I have to save $$ when I can). I turned my daughter on to 5th Gear too. Her VW Jetta needed an alignment after hitting so many pot holes last winter. I bought some new all season tires for her car, and while driving it around with her, I realized it was very out of alignment. 5th Gear matched a coupon deal from another shop, since she was a first time client. They also checked out her other concerns (some odd noise I couldn't hear), but found nothing to worry about and didn't charge extra for the checkup, which was great since she's presently unemployed and flat broke. Love the big dog who greets all the clients. Their waiting room is the best I've ever seen at any independent auto shop. There's a good flat screen TV, a comfy couple of sofas, and free WiFi. Good cell service too. It's cleaner than most shops I've been to. They really care about their reputation and their shop's conditions. Sure, by the end of the day the actual workshop area is dirty, but the front area, what the customers mostly see is kept very clean. My only complaints are: 1. The location is not so easy to find and Google Maps had me take some strange route that got me lost; 2. It's a bit of drive from N. Boulder, but well worth it to get such great service; 3. There's no place within walking distance to get some food, so bring it with you if you plan to wait. 4. They've gotten such great reviews that getting in for repairs is getting more difficult. None of my complaints equate to fewer than 5 stars though. If I could give them 10 stars I would.
